The Alphabet
The alphabet has 26 letters starting with A and going to Z. The two letters in the middle of the alphabet are M and N. The letters that we use in our alphabet now today were first developed and used by the ancient Greeks and Romans many centuries ago who borrowed and transformed characters and letters that the Phoenicians living along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea had been using with their writing for a long time who in turn got some of their letters from a Semitic alphabet now thought to be at least nearly 4,000 years old that was developed by people living in or near the region of the Sinai desert which lies between Egypt and Israel and connects the continent of Africa with the land of the Middle East. Each century is 100 years and it takes 10 centuries to make a millenium or a thousand years. The ancient Greeks and Romans first started using the letters that we use now in our alphabet over 2 millenia, or more than 20 centuries ago. Later in Great Britain also known as England which is a large island off the west coast of Europe about the size of California where the English culture and language came from, then letters in the Latin alphabet from the Greeks and the Romans being used at the time began to be mixed and modified with a few of the old runic letters and characters of a Germanic origin by the Anglo-Saxons who ruled England for a long time until then after the Norman invasion in the 11th century then by the 1500's then you more or less had the standardized English alphabet that we know and use today
